Collection cost calculator: understand partial payments

This calculator illustrates allocation of a payment under the incaseof.law terms. It does not determine statutory collection fees. Enter the already established cost items and the payment to see the amounts allocated to principal, costs and interest.

Engagement and acceptance are governed by the terms.

All amounts in euros. Prefilled values are an illustrative example, not a fee schedule. Use the applicable items from your statement. This calculator does not establish whether costs or interest are owed.

Which order does the model use?

The contractual example allocates payments first to collection costs including applicable lump sums, then interest. The client’s court fees, legal fees and principal follow. Each item receives no more than the entered amount; any excess remains separately visible.

This is the incaseof.law model, not a universal rule for every provider or statutory payment situation. The agreed terms and the specific legal classification form the basis.

What does the prefilled example show?

The example assumes EUR 1,000 principal, EUR 100 collection costs, EUR 50 interest, EUR 40 court fees and EUR 60 legal fees. A EUR 500 payment allocates EUR 150 to collection costs and interest, EUR 100 to the entered client costs and EUR 250 to principal. EUR 750 of principal remains outstanding.

The EUR 40 entry is an illustrative input, not the ordinary court fee for your case. Use the separate court-fee calculator for initial fee orientation. These figures are not real customer data.

Why not calculate one universal collection charge?

Remuneration, statutory reimbursement limits and actual recovery of costs are separate questions. Jurisdiction, work performed, eligibility and the agreement affect which items apply. Lump sums must not simply be added to every other amount without checking.

A useful calculator therefore needs a defined scope. This model helps explain settlement; it does not establish individual fees or whether they are recoverable. Inputs stay in your browser and trigger no instruction, message or contact request.
