REST APIs and collection webhooks

A REST API lets systems retrieve or handle resources through defined requests. A webhook reports a particular event to an agreed recipient. Both can support a collection integration.

Engagement and acceptance are governed by the terms.

Distinguish the concepts

Request, technical response and business outcome differ. Saving a record does not automatically establish payment or acceptance of every assertion submitted. Retries must also avoid creating an unintended duplicate case. An integration needs reliable references, documented retry behaviour and controlled error handling.

Jurisdiction and scope

incaseof.law’s partner webhooks report collection stage and case status, including open, disputed or closed with a closing reason. There is no separate payment webhook. Partial payments and instalments are available through the API; a payment may be reflected in status when it closes the case. Implement status handling and payment reconciliation separately. An interface does not remove data-protection obligations or the need to assess the claim.

Illustrative business example

An accounting system receives a closed-case event. It reads the reason and retrieves payment data before clearing the invoice. A partial payment may leave the case open; periodic API reconciliation still detects it. This avoids equating the absence of a payment webhook with the absence of a receipt.

Common questions

Will every payment arrive by webhook?

Not in the incaseof.law partner integration described here. Retrieve payment information through the API.

Can a failed creation request be blindly retried?

Check documented idempotency and case references. A response can be interrupted after a record was created.

What belongs in logs?

Status, time, technical reference and necessary error information. Keep access keys and unnecessary personal case data out of freely readable logs.
